We are proud to be the heirs of an age-old tradition, which dates back to the times of the 14th century Communes and Signories. There is news of Portole since 1348, when – where our Hotel now stands– the Portole Hospital was being built.

Since the 19th century, the numerous Lunghi Family, consisting of grandparents Antonio and Zaira and their twelve children, have been residing, running an Inn and a grocery. The old 19th century manor house in ‘pietra serena’ (a type of grey stone) was renovated in about 1970, and turned into the present Portole Hotel & Restaurant, an uncontaminated haven of peace and good cuisine, where age-old peasant traditions are blended in-harmony with modern reception comforts.
